Joel Michalak is a writer, producer, director, editor and actor. The website for his production company Novelty Friend hosts several short films, sketches and music videos that Joel Michalak produced, wrote, directed and edited.
Joel majored in film/TV production in middle school, high school and college, and has worked professionally in TV and film production in Los Angeles for over a decade. He has a wide range of technical knowledge and skills in both production and post production. Joel began studying acting at the age of 10, but switched his focus to writing and directing when he reached high school. He graduated Full Sail University with a degree in film and went on to train at and graduate from UCB Theatre Los Angeles, with degrees in both their improv and sketch writing programs.
Joel's professional technical experience in camera and lighting includes credits from The Office, House, Desperate House Wives, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Wilfred, Last Man on Earth, Code Black, Kocked Up, Star Trek: Into the Darkness, Die Hard IV, Zodiac, Pineapple Express, and many other films, television shows, commercials and music videos.
With his extensive experience in both the creative and technical sides of film production and post production, Joel Michalak has been in a unique position to professionally produce his own passion projects on a small budget, as proven with the 2015 sitcom pilot Falling Flat which won the jury award for "Best Narrative Short" at the Columbia Gorge International Film Festival in 2016, and won The Award of Merit in the Best Shorts Competition 2016.
